We are starting this blog to provide a resource for you to learn and grow with us—we want to make sure stressing over mileage and expense tracking is truly a thing of the past!
Before we get too far into the nitty-gritty details, I’d like to start the conversation by sharing a bit about myself—why I started BizLog and launched the TripLog App, and how I got my start with mileage reimbursement and tax reporting in the first place.
My professional career started as a software developer. As my career progressed, I began consulting with large multinational companies which resulted in my need to organize and manage my expenses to maximize my tax deductions. I found that one of the most time-consuming expense tracking “chores” was mileage tracking. I was often frustrated by this process since it wasn’t a value-added activity. There always seemed to be lost receipts to track down and forgotten trips to record.

Being a busy professional with a young family, I strived to balance my work life with family time, so I searched for an automated solution to my mileage tracking problem. To my surprise, nothing on the market adequately met my needs, so I started writing my own mileage tracking app in 2010.
What started out as a personal solution soon became something that I shared with friends and family who were also looking for solutions to simplify their own mileage tracking needs. The feedback and support from my family, friends, and colleagues helped me launch BizLog as a bootstrap startup in 2011. I am proud to say that I still retain 100% ownership of BizLog, and a vested interest in supplying our customers with the highest quality product with each update to TripLog.
After TripLog launched, I quickly began to see a large growth in people who were interested in my product. It was both exciting and humbling to see that something I created as a side project could help so many people.
I continued to work hard to build more innovative and reliable solutions to manage business expenses, maximize tax deductions, and simplify mileage reimbursement. Soon enough, we were able to create TripLog Enterprise, which is a subscription plan that we designed specifically to meet the needs of our corporate users.
Over the years, we focused on fine-tuning our product and integrating with industry leading travel and expense management and accounting software solutions like Concur, QuickBooks Online, and Freshbooks. These tools enable us to provide top-notch service to our individual and corporate users alike.
Starting my own company came with its fair share of challenges, but the rewards have been innumerable. Few things give me more joy than building something that helps you spend more time doing what you love–for me, that’s spending time doing the little things, like going on weekend camping trips with my family or watching my kids’ baseball games.
